COMPETITIVE SPORT:
     John continues to compete within triathlon and trail running. He has competed at various age group world championship events including the Ironman Triathlon World Championship in Kona, Hawaii (three times) and the Boston Marathon.

SPORT PSYCHOLOGY:
     Educated at Manchester Metropolitan University in his native England, John gained two undergraduate qualifications in Sport Science and Disabilities and Business Sport and Recreation.
     Following graduation he completed a Master’s Degree in Sport and Exercise Science (Sport Psychology) and further gained BASES (British Association of Sport & Exercise Science) accreditation for applied sport psychology support whilst employed at Macclesfield Town FC, before relocating to Canada.
     Applied sport psychology is a passion and challenge, to observe and support coaches and athletes in identifying, understanding and confronting their personal performance goals.
SPORTS COACHING:
     John holds Canadian A License coaching award in soccer, UEFA B License and many other sports coaching qualifications. With other 35 years coaching experience, as a professional soccer coach, he has worked for many club’s in England including full-time at Macclesfield Town and Middlesbrough FC. In Canada he was the Manager of Grassroots Development Alberta Soccer Association for 10 years. Current support is provided to Ambrose University soccer program and Janus Academy in Calgary.
     John has supported coaches and athletes from a variety of sports including triathlon, hockey, running, rugby, cycling, disability sports and dance.

George’s first love has always been the beautiful game—soccer. A lifelong player, coach, and official, George has spent many years sharing his passion for the sport. He coached and officiated with EMSA (Edmonton Minor Soccer Association) and proudly spent nine years with Edmonton’s Family Friendly Soccer League, as well as three years serving as President of the Men’s Christian Soccer Association.
More recently, George has expanded his love for youth sports into the world of flag football, where he previously volunteered as the Director of Officials with the AFS Flag Football League. Whether on the field or behind the scenes, George is known for his sound leadership, positive energy, and dedication to building fun, inclusive programs for kids.
As the Club Coordinator for our new MLS GO soccer league—a national grassroots initiative in partnership with Major League Soccer—George brings a wealth of experience and a sport-for-life mindset to the role. He’s passionate about helping kids build confidence, stay active, and develop a love for the game in a fun, low-pressure environment.
And yes—it’s true: George is a proud father of 10. So managing a league of energetic young players? He’s more than ready.

Open to children of all ages, MLS GO is designed for everyone—from future pros to first-time players. We focus on teaching fundamental skills and fostering a lifelong love of the game.​

By offering a structured, community-based program with connections to a developmental pathway, we aim to break down barriers and make soccer accessible to all.​

Airdrie Cosmos SC - MLS GO Summer Soccer League
AIRDRIE CAMPS and CLUBB SPORT are proud to present MLS GO,
​and our new soccer club the Airdrie Cosmos SC!
DATES: Aug 6th thru Sept 24th
AGES: 4-14 / GRADES: K-8 (Grade going into in fall, cannot be going into 9)
DAYS & TIME: Wednesdays 6pm-7pm
CAPACITY: Max 10 per team (Teams / Divisions dependent on total registration numbers)
REGISTRATION:  Opens May 1st and continues until July 16th (or until full)

Why should my child play in an MLS GO league?
  • MLS GO offers all children a chance to fall in love with soccer through a fun, affordable, and high-quality program. Enjoy MLS-branded uniforms, top-notch equipment, and user-friendly training guides, all designed to make soccer accessible and exciting for everyone.
What benefits do I get for participating in a league?
  • Participants enjoy a safe and enjoyable environment where fundamental skills are taught with a focus on fun and safety. Each player receives MLS team-branded uniforms, access to a well-structured program, and exclusive experiences.
​What ages are allowed to play?
  • MLS GO welcomes children aged 4-14 but leagues will determine what age groups will be offered.
How much does it cost to participate?
  • Costs vary by organization, but MLS GO strives to keep participation affordable to ensure accessibility for all families.
When is MLS GO soccer played?
  • Seasons typically run in Spring and Fall, though exact dates can vary by location. Some leagues also offer Summer and Winter seasons.
What equipment do I need & what do my fees cover?
  • Players need only to provide their own shin guards and cleats. Your registration includes a jersey, shorts, socks to keep.
  • Additional fees go towards the purchase of soccer balls/other equipment and for paid/trained head coaches & officials, as well as league insurance and field rentals.
What is the time commitment?
  • Leagues usually hold one practice and one game per week, with a maximum of two practices per week.
Is it possible to receive financial support for my kid?
  • Yes! We help cover the participation fees of individual players through our MLS GO PLAY FUND, an annual financial commitment from Major League Soccer (MLS) to expand access to youth recreational soccer. Learn more

Welcome to the MLS GO PLAYBOOK!
​The PLAYBOOK is tailored exclusively to MLS GO as a free tool for coaches of all skill levels to step onto the field and guide a team and player to a successful season. ​
Each learning manual is designed to be age specific and encourages coaching in a positive way to keep kids engaged and help them learn the game.​
The training sessions have been built with the objective of developing technical, tactical, physical, and mental skills for children. Through MLS GO and the content within the PLAYBOOK, kids will have fun, build self-confidence, and develop a love for the game.

George Barendregt
Club Coordinator / Head of Officials

George Barendregt’s first love has always been the beautiful game—soccer. A lifelong player, coach, and official, George has dedicated decades to growing the sport at the grassroots level. He has coached and officiated with the Edmonton Minor Soccer Association, spent nine years with Edmonton’s Family Friendly Soccer League, and served three years as President of the Men’s Christian Soccer Association.

Beyond soccer, George has also given his time to youth flag football as the Director of Officials with the AFS Flag Football League. Wherever he’s involved, George is known for his leadership, positive energy, and commitment to creating fun, inclusive, and welcoming programs for kids.

As the Club Coordinator for our MLS GO program—a national grassroots initiative in partnership with Major League Soccer—George brings a wealth of experience and a lifelong passion for sport. He is dedicated to helping young players build confidence, stay active, and develop a lasting love for the game in a supportive environment.

John Clubb
Technical Director / Head Coach

Originally from England, John Clubb brings over 35 years of coaching and sport science expertise to our MLS GO program. Educated at Manchester Metropolitan University, John earned degrees in Sport Science and Disabilities, and Sport and Recreation, before completing a Master’s in Sport and Exercise Science with a specialization in Sport Psychology. He later gained accreditation with the British Association of Sport & Exercise Science (BASES) while working at Macclesfield Town FC before moving to Canada.

John is a highly qualified soccer coach, holding both the Canadian A License and UEFA B License, along with numerous certifications across multiple sports. His coaching career includes roles with professional clubs in England such as Macclesfield Town and Middlesbrough FC, and in Canada he served as Manager of Grassroots Development for the Alberta Soccer Association for 10 years. Today, he continues to share his expertise with Ambrose University’s soccer program and Janus Academy in Calgary, while also supporting athletes and coaches across sports like triathlon, rugby, hockey, cycling, and more.

A lifelong competitor himself, John has raced in triathlons and marathons around the world, including the Boston Marathon and three appearances at the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii. His passion lies in helping athletes and coaches not only reach their performance goals, but also enjoy the journey of sport.
